Mission: Helping young immigrants achieve their True Potential through quality, affordable education.
True Potential is a scholarship program founded by Ross and Karen Pesek in 2014, right after President Obama announced the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA), to grant a temporary work permit to Young immigrants that were brought to the United States by their parents as minors. These young immigrants are commonly known as Dreamers, and they don’t qualify to receive any federal help, including FAFSA loans and most scholarships. True Potential looks to fill this gap and help Dreamers start or continue their education after high school. The True Potential scholarships are for one-year full tuition to any of the community colleges in Nebraska and Iowa.
The scholarships are for community colleges because Ross and Karen are alumni of a community college in Nebraska, and recognize these colleges offer a great variety of programs, technical and of academic transfer, for a wide variety of professions, and all of this provided at a fraction of the cost of universities or four year institutions.
Since 2014, True Potential has granted over 50 scholarships to community colleges of Nebraska and Iowa and, with the help of private donors, the program has grown and is set on continue to support the Dreamers of the Midwest.
